Representatives from 24 different countries met in Hamburg to discuss the use of air freight in shipping chilled and ambient goods.  The global supply chain is currently very inefficient – half of all food production is lost between harvest and consumption, partly because food has to compete for space on ships and aircraft with other types of freight.  Cargo capacity constraints are likely to increase in future, as demand increases by about 31% but capacity by only 1%.  Shipper and carriers both need to tackle inefficiencies.
