The Victorian government has announced a comprehensive £28 billion freight strategy aimed at revolutionising the state’s logistics sector whilst addressing environmental concerns. This landmark investment will significantly enhance Victoria’s position as a premier freight hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the heart of this initiative is Victoria’s participation in the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor agreement, established in 2024. This pioneering agreement positions Ports Victoria as a key player in developing sustainable maritime freight solutions, aligning with global decarbonisation targets.

The strategy encompasses major infrastructure upgrades across Victoria’s port network, including advanced digital systems for cargo tracking and automated handling facilities. These improvements are expected to increase freight capacity by 40% whilst reducing carbon emissions through electrified port equipment and shore power capabilities for vessels.

For businesses like RW Freight, this development presents substantial opportunities. Enhanced port efficiency will reduce turnaround times, whilst green shipping corridors will provide cost-effective, environmentally responsible transport options for international cargo movements.

The plan also includes dedicated freight rail connections and improved road networks, ensuring seamless multimodal connectivity. This integrated approach will strengthen Victoria’s supply chain resilience and support the state’s economic growth objectives through 2030 and beyond.
