The UK government has announced that it made a major pledge alongside the US, Norway, and the Netherlands to roll out zero-emission shipping routes between our countries at COP27.
The ‘green shipping corridors’ are specific maritime routes decarbonised from start to finish, including land-side infrastructure and shipping vessels.
Setting up these routes involves using zero-emission fuel or energy, installing refuelling or recharging infrastructure at ports, and using zero-emission capable vessels to demonstrate cleaner, more environmentally-friendly shipping.
The UK and the US have agreed to launch a special Green Shipping Corridor Task Force to bring together experts in the sector, encouraging vital research and development, and initiating other important work and projects.
