The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has written to the UK government, asking for an investigation into competition within the deep-sea container shipping market.
The main trade association for freight forwarding and logistics in the UK says members are concerned that certain practices undertaken by the main container shipping lines are distorting the operations of the free market to the detriment of international trade.
The Director General expresses theconcern that – during a period of well-documented chaos within the container shipping sector – commercial power is becoming increasingly concentrated, with the result of diminished market choice and competition, and distorted market conditions.
