The economy in China has been recovering well from the pandemic, but is now suffering from the global shortage of shipping containers. A rapid increase in exports to the West, and disruption at ports because of the coronavirus, means many containers are out of position. Ships are queueing outside ports and freight rates increasing rapidly.
The cost of sending a 40-foot container from China to the US has more than quadrupled in the past year.
