Trade bodies in India have urged the government to set up a regulator, to deal with rising sea freight charges, and the problem of container shortages which exporters have.

The Engineering Export Promotion Council of India has claimed that shipping lines are demanding high freight charges because import traffic from different countries, particularly from China, has declined. Exporters are therefore required to pay a higher amount for outbound consignments.
