The US government has threatened to impose tariffs on $11 billion in imports from the European Union, which may make international trade even more difficult.

The decision to target products such as passenger helicopters, ski-suits, and various cheeses and wines was justified by highlighting EU subsidies for Airbus. The European aircraft producer is the main competitor of the US manufacturer Boeing, whose reputation has suffered from two lethal plane crashes in less than five months.
