The Pakistan Vegetable and Fruits Exporters Association pressed the government to begin the process of exports of potato to China. Pakistan has harvested a bumper crop this year and could meet the demand from China, which imports around one million tons per year of the potatoes.
China wrote to the Pakistan Ministry of Commerce the Association to say that China would urgently initiate the process of potato import from Pakistan. Potato exporters are pleased with this.
If Pakistan is unable to export their surplus, the potatoes would have to be buried as vegetable waste.
