Consumers in the Republic of Ireland continue to take advantage of the weakness in sterling, by importing used cars from the UK.
The number of imported vehicles licensed in the Irish State during the first eight months of the year increased by 10.4 per cent to 67,060 . In contrast the number of new cars licensed in Ireland dropped by 4.5 per cent to 111,461.
Irish consumers have been abandoning the purchase of new models in favour of buying used premium imports from the UK.
