Industry sources in India stated that an increase in the minimum selling price for cotton will eventually result in a higher average price for the current season. This may also result in an increase in cotton imports;industry members are planning to import cotton to supply the coming two months of demand.

The latest update shows that 2018/19 imports are forecast at 1.6 million 480 lb. bales (2 million 170 kg bales/ 348,359 MT).

Imports will probably remain strong, as cotton mills import for processing and re-export to cover yarn and fabric export commitments.
