Australia has lost its place as the number one beef exporter to China, because the Chinese are seeking cheaper imports from Brazil and Uruguay. Australian beef exports have dropped overall by 41 per cent in May 2016, compared to the previous year, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.
The biggest export falls were in grass-fed and frozen beef, showing a decline of over 30 per cent. A small rise in chilled beef in May, proves that Australia needs to focus on the high-value product, and get more processors accredited to supply it to China.
