Cargo carriers at Amsterdam Schiphol – Europe’s third-busiest freight airport – are trying out a new logistics system to cut CO2 emissions.

The ‘Milk Run’ concept uses a single delivery from a handling agent to multiple freight forwarding facilities in place of individual collections by each freight forwarder.

So far the trial has reduced by a third the number of vehicle movements used to handle import traffic, and the hope is to extend the concept to exports in the future.
