The largest rail freight carrier in Poland, PKP Cargo, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with HZ Cargo, the rail freight company of Croatia, to open up opportunities in central and southern Europe.
The partnership with Croatia’s national rail freight company will lead to cooperation with rail freight and logistics within the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor and in the Balkans, PKP Cargo has said. PKP will be given access to ports in Rijeka and Ploce, as well as HZ Cargo terminals.
In spite of being Europe’s second-largest rail freight carrier, PKP Cargo has said that prior to this agreement the Balkans had remained off limits.
PKP Cargo only recently completed the acquisition of Advanced World Transport (AWT), which operates international rail freight services to Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia.
