A BROKEN down freight train in Brough caused delays yesterday for motorists and train passengers. Dozens of trains due to leave Hull had to be cancelled, and replacement bus services were been laid on.

The broken down freight train stopped at the railway crossing in Skillings Lane after the driver saw some smoke coming from one of the wagons.

The barrier at the crossing had to remain down until the freight train was checked for safety.
