Lord Tony Berkeley, head of the Rail Freight Group (RFG) has written an open letter to the EU member states on behalf of the European Rail Freight Association (ERFA) ahead of the EU meeting on October 8. He urges those present to ‘remove the discrimination potential that incumbents have at their disposal and use against newcomers, and to create the preconditions for more private investments and growth in the rail sector.’

Lord Berkeley is a Director of the ERFA, a Brussels based lobby group formed in 2002 which evolved after the First Railway Package, adopted by the EU in 2001. The group specifically represents new entrants and potential entrants to the European rail freight market and is working toward a single European market for rail borne cargo.
