A massive rail freight depot is planned for South Derbyshire.
If the plan goes ahead, up to 7000 jobs may be created. But the controversial project, would involve building on Egginton Heath and is therefore bound to provoke opposition from campaigners who oppose the use of valuable natural habitats for freight handling.
Some large manufacturers are located not too far away from the site, and they are all looking for cheaper and more effective ways of getting their freight and cargo in and out.
