SPAIN’s transport minister Mrs Ana Pastor last week revealed further details of the liberalisation process initiated in February 2013. She confirmed the government’s intention to begin the partial privatisation of the freight branch of the national rail company in the next few months.
The Spanish government plans to launch a public tender to select an industrial partner for Renfe Freight, although details on the financial aspects of the operation or the exact date when the tendering process will start are still unknown.
French National Railways (SNCF) has already confirmed its decision to acquire a 25% stake in Spanish open-access freight operator Comsa Rail Transport (CRT).
