The French government is introducing a tax at an average rate of 0.12 euros per km for commercial vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes (excluding toll motorways). The aim is to encourage shippers to use modes of transport other than road,but has induced bad feeling in the freight and logistics industry. It is likely to be delayed because the company administering the scheme cannot cope with the volume of applications.
