As the use of fuel for cargo ships becomes more costly, developments are under way to introduce hybrid ships which will use wind assistance to reduce the cost and emissions of shipping. The prototype ship will measure 330 feet and derive primary power from a sail hoisted with an automated rig.  Backup power will come from methane produced from municipal waste.  The ship will feature a 180 ft sail and carry 4500 tonnes of freight.
