Whilst shipping lines can benefit from the scales of economy offered by larger and larger freight ships, terminal operators have concerns about being able to handle the huge vessels.  An industry spokesman told the Container Supply Chain Asia conference in Hong Kong that the new ships require huge investment.  Labour costs have risen more quickly than expected in China, and sometimes the ports find that they do not have enough volume of cargo using the facilities.
