The government in Finland is proposing measures to help compensate shipping and road transport companies with additional costs.  The EU marine fuels sulphur reduces sulphur emissions in vessels operating in sensitive areas.  Shipping lines will have to fit sulphuric oxide scrubbers, or use lower emission fuels which are less economical.

The government will investigate ways to support exporters and transport companies affected by increased costs. Around 90% of Finland’s exports and 70% of imports, move through the Baltic Sea to international markets.
