The Freight Transport Association and Freight by Water are staging a free one-day conference, considering the opportunities and issues surrounding the use of short-sea freight services.

The event will be held on 7 September 2012 at PD Ports, Middlesbrough, and will address issues of national significance as well as focussing on the north-east of England and the North Sea.  Among the main speakers will be the Department for Transport (DfT) discussing government grants and the ways in which the industry can use them effectively. The 2015 Sulphur Directive is also to be discussed in detail, assessing its potential impact on services and costs.

There will also be market briefings on the possibilities for water freight for containers and trucks and the experience of port-centric logistics by users.
