As Scotland faced its worst blizzard for twenty five years on 8 December, police were forced to stop lorry drivers, cars and pedestrians from braving the roads.  Scotland ground to a halt as powerlines came down and passenger and freight traffic were unable to use the roads or railways.

It is estimated that the cost of that one day could be up to £100 million.
