Ports on the West Coast of the USA came to a halt earlier in the week as Occupy Wall Street protesters blocked freight trucks at ports.  Freight and logistics terminals in Oakland, California, Portland, Oregon and Longview Washington had operations halted.

The organisers are claiming victory, because although the freight drivers are still waiting in their trucks, there are no dock workers to unload the cargo.

Organisers are hoping to reduce the profits of the corporations which run the docks. The dock workers union did not officially support the protests, but its membership cited a provision in its contract which allowed workers to ask to stay off the job if they felt conditions were unsafe.
