Transport for London is raising awareness amongst freight operators and drivers of cycle safety. Their Freight Team is working with cyclists and HGV drivers to improve safety and awareness of other road users.
There are now thousands more cycle journeys in London than decades ago, and overall the accident rate has fallen. However, more than 50% of all cyclist deaths in London are caused by collisions with freight vehicles. Technology is being tested which improves the visibility of cyclists for drivers, and cyclists are being made aware of how to avoid the danger of cycling into lorry drivers’ blind spots.
