A new cargo route was launched last month between Chongqing in the southwest of China, and Europe. The route Shanghai-Chongqing-Moscow-Luxembourg-Shanghai flies every Wednesday and Sunday.
The “Yangtze River Express” will help to build an air service network to Russia with Moscow as the hub, and another web for central and western Europe with Luxembourg as the centre. There are also new services between Chongqing and Taipei and Guangzhou, which will help Chongqing to become a hub between the cargo markets of Europe and Taiwan.
Chongqing airport’s international cargo transport volume soared 580 percent year on year to in the first four months of this year, according to Shao Jin, vice general manager of the Chongqing airport ground service company.
This was mainly due to the boom in IT products, which currently represent 80 % of cargo departures from the airport.
