A new logistics hub at the Port of Dover’s Western Docks could create more than 600 jobs, and could also safeguard 140 posts through the construction of a new cargo terminal.

The project is designed to ensure that the Port has “the essential infrastructure in place to serve its customers in the years ahead with the additional opportunity to increase ferry berth capacity in the Eastern Docks through the transfer of the cargo operation to the west,” the Dover Harbour Board said.

The re-development project is focused on creating a logistics hub to attract cargo shippers, shipping lines and supply chain partners to Dover.

Dover has increasing traffic in ocean freight shipping, in particular in perishables and is currently served by three vessels weekly. This business to be expanded and having first-class handling capabilities in the logistics hub would help its development.
