Freight Transport Association (FTA) representatives and members were invited to Calais at the beginning of the month by Immigration Minister James Brokenshire MP.   The visit was to explore progress and ongoing challenges with migrants trying to board freight vehicles en route to the UK.

Mr Brokenshire was joined by Freight Transport Association Deputy Chief Executive James Hookham, Head of Policy for the South East Natalie Chapman and freight operators whose vehicles regularly use the cross-Channel route.

The FTA has been in regular contact with Mr Brokenshire since last summer, when problems with growing numbers of migrants at the Jungle Camp escalated.
