Electric locomotives can now operate to the Railport Brabant (RPB) freight terminal in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
ProRail has completed the installation of 1.3 kilometres of OLE to the terminal, which allows freight trains hauled by electric locomotives to access the facility for the first time.
Formally opened on February 24, the €1.1 million project will mean that trains bound for the international freight terminal will no longer have to swap their electric locomotives for diesel ones en route.
ProRail estimates that electrifying the line, which connects RPB with the Brabant rail network, will reduce the amount of freight moved by road to Tilburg by 78,000 trucks a year.
