The Freight Transport Associations Climate Change Policy Manager said β€œFTA recognises the urgent need for the UK to meet EU air quality targets and to improve local air quality for residents. We also recognise that the freight sector must contribute. But to fail to include cars – a major source of pollutants – in such plans is baffling….The Clean Air Zone in London in 2020 will permit cars.”

The Freight Transport Association has expressed reservations regarding Clean Air Zones;they are relatively expensive and potentially disruptive options which deliver limited results. There is real concern for small freight operators who may not be able to buy new freight vehicles in time for the introduction of the Zones.

A large number of freight operators will have substantially pre-Euro 6 van fleets in 2020 – especially those who use second-hand vehicles.
