Police in Finland have taken the crew of a Russian-linked tanker, known as the Eagle S, into indefinite custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the damage caused to the Estlink-2 power cable. The undersea cable, which connects Finland and Estonia across the Baltic Sea, is believed to have been damaged by the ship’s anchor dragging along the seabed on Christmas Day.

The incident has raised concerns about the potential involvement of Russia’s ‘ghost fleet’ in the damage to the critical infrastructure.

As the investigation continues, authorities in Finland are working to determine the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The detention of the Eagle S crew is a significant step in the probe, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
