The Freight Transport Association (FTA) said the interim report published on 17 December emphasises the need for new airport capacity in the south east. The FTA has been campaigning for this for a long time, as it will enhance the status of Heathrow as a global air cargo hub. The majority of air freight imports and exports in the UK are carried via Heathrow.
The three options include a third runway at Heathrow, increasing the length of an existing runway at Heathrow and a new runway at Gatwick.
