The cost of shipping goods from China has fallen to the lowest level in more than two years; container carriers recorded record profits during the pandemic but the situation has changed dramatically.

A 40-foot shipping container from Shanghai to Los Angeles cost $3,779 last week, the first time the spot price was below $4,000 since September 2020.

The value of Chinese exports was still rising in August, but it is expected to continue to slow.
