The Haven Gateway Partnership estimates that switching 90 freight containers from road to rail or coastal shipping would save £12000 in fuel costs. According to the Low Carbon Freight Dividend project, this would also help ease road congestion, although ultimately goods would usually still have to be delivered to the final destination by road.
