Shipping lines attempted to increase westbound freight rates to North Europe at the beginning of this month without success, according to a shipping analyst.  This was apparently triggered by one of the major shipping lines failing to implement an increase on the Mediterranean route, which in turn led to an erosion in the North Europe rate.  In only two weeks, carriers have lost about 64% of the increase.
