The British International Freight Association has said that the news that some container shipping lines say that they will discontinue low sulphur fuel surcharges is welcome.

The trade association, which represents UK freight forwarding and logistics companies has challenged the legitimacy of shipping line surcharges for some time.

BIFA accused the carriers of profiteering when they announced in 2018 that they would be introducing the low sulphur surcharges significantly in advance of the IMO 2020 regulation, which only took effect on January 1st 2020.
