A Scottish company is discussing launching a new ferry line with a Dutch port Britain’s potentially giving a speedy alternative route for Scottish exports such as whisky if Brexit causes initial customs delays.

The ferry line is projected to run between Rosyth, near Edinburgh, and Groningen Seaport at Eemshaven. The port is in the far north of the Netherlands near the border with Germany.
A spokesman for Groningen Seaport confirmed that the plan was being investigated.

Some commentators have said that a no-deal Brexit would lead to customs delays, although the UK successfully trades with countries outside the EU without problems.
