China is planning an efficient and environmentally friendly freight system in the west of the country by 2025. Railway networks and sea ports are to be expanded under the plan.

The plan said that 500 000 standard containers will be shipped by combined railway-ship and that the Beibu Gulf Port in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yangpu Port in Hainan Province will handle 10 million and 5 million containers.

The land and sea freight passage plays an important role in China’s western inland area.
