The four road freight unions in South Africa are striking in support of a 20% pay increase over the next two years.  The action has turned violent, with protests breaking out in the street in Johannesburg.  Four freight workers were injured when police fired rubber bullets.  The Unions are due to meet the Road Freight Employers Association, who have offered 7.5% increase; the wages negotiations reached deadlock in December and the freight workers have been on a go-slow.
