Kenya is preparing to allow duty free maize imports from July, to compensate for the grain shortage which has caused the price of flour rise 30 percent in one month.

The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary told millers in a private meeting that strategies, including a waiver of the 50 percent duty imposed on imported grain from outside East Africa Community (EAC) region are in place to avoid last minute rush.
He met with both millers and animal feed manufacturers, and said the import of both yellow and white maize will be opened once the current stocks are exhausted.
