From this week, regulations on the drivers of international freight lorries will be more strictly enforced.  Roadside checks on foreign drivers will included details of the driver’s recent work records.  Freight haulage companies based in any country other than the UK are only allowed to do three domestic haulage operations in a period of seven days.  This should prevent vehicle and driver remaining here for weeks, engaging in regular domestic haulage contracts.  Infringements will be subject to a £200 fixed penalty, but many in the UK freight and shipping community will consider that penalties should be much harsher.
