Having shown a steady fall since the end of last year, shipping industry experts are predicting that the Baltic Dry Index may begin to show an improvement by the end of March. Even so, dry freight rates will probably still be lower than in November 2009. Rates are always affected by the Chinese New Year, which this year is on 14 February, and all Chinese factories close down. Freight rates for Very Large Crude Carriers are improving slightly.
