Against the general trend of retraction and downturn in the shipping industry, the forty-four Baltic Ports are projecting growth in traffic and continuing investment.  Turku University has prepared a report in conjunction with the Baltic Ports Organization, having carried out an extensive survey of all the ports in the region.  The majority of respondents are forecasting growth in the economy and in shipping traffic, although this is not always good news; the biggest growth last year was in the port of St Petersburg in Russia, but this resulted in congestion at the terminal because of inadequate logistics infrastructure.
