China has traditionally concentrated on container shipping, exporting vast containers full of consumer goods to Western economies.  This means that there is very little expertise in other areas of the shipping industry in China, so Grand China Shipping, a Chinese container company, has bought a stake in a Norwegian oil rig transport company.  The shipping company based in Norway specialises in transporting oil-drilling platform equipment; oil exploration in the South China sea is increasing and the Chinese company hopes to capitalise on this.
