The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport has recently completed a survey to elicit members opinions about the training and education facilities available to train young people for the logistis and freight industries. More than 90% of respondents said that providing full-time undergraduate places for UK students would benefit economic growth, but that there should also be more training places for skills specific to freight, shipping and logistics.
52% of respondents wanted to encourage jointly funded government/industry initiatives to increase apprenticeships, as there are impending shortages of skills in the logistics industries, specifically in the areas of HGV drivers and warehouse personnel.
