New timber from Norway to renovate the Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff was shipped in the greenest possible way – on a sailing ship from Bergen.  The cargo was brought from  Cardiff’s partner region in Norway, Hordaland County – in a topsail schooner.  The ship is a specialist eco freight carrier and part of a shipbroker based in Holland which specialises in sustainable shipping.  The Church was originally built for Norwegian sailors  who worked for the Norwegian merchant fleet in 1868.  The Mayor of Hordaland County said;

"We are delighted that the ‘Tres Hombres’ has been able to come to Bergen to collect our timber, and this green shipping service offers a perfect opportunity to link our tradition of building with wood with a traditional means of transport which also respects the environment".
