Rumours have been circulating in New Zealand that the world’s largest container shipping line announced that it would not carry cargoes of ‘at-risk’ marine species.  The shipping line carries about 40% of New Zealand’s ocean freight and the country is a major exporter of fish.  The Ministry of Fisheries subsequently reported that the shipping line ‘was reviewing its policy’, rather than banning certain cargo.  The fishing industry is New Zealand’s fifth largest exporter and therefore represents a large slice of revenue for the shipping industry.
