Improvements to the line between Felixstowe and Nuneaton will improve freight services between the port and the Midlands, North West, Yorkshire and Scotland. Currently freight travles down to London then up the West Coast line to these locations. The newly constructed links mean that cargo will be able to take a more direct route, which should encourage freight forwarders to take the cargo off the road and on to the rail. Rail managers expect container freight traffic to quadruple by 2030.
