EXpress freight service providers are facing a challenge from groupage operators, as high tech companies re-consider their logistics options and try to cut costs. Many groupage freight forwarders can offer 48 hour export services daily from the UK to the main destinations in Europe. This is slightly slower than the express operators, but can offer considerable cost savings to exporters. Larger freight forwarders and groupage consolidators are consciously targeting the express market in the hope of increasing their customer base, which has been eroded in previous years by the express operators trying to get their smaller groupage consignments.
