Freight trains should be able to move more smoothly through the tunnel after the takeover of the rail operating company which was formerly responsible for the services. The takeover should lead to cheaper rates, easier track access and enable railways to move freight unimpeded across borders. Shippers will have access to a wider network and will benefit from being able to move fresh chilled food across the border with Spain.
